Gräfe, Albrecht Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst von
(22 may. 1828, Berlín, Prusia–20 jul. 1870, Berlín).

Oftalmólogo alemán. Mediante el uso del oftalmoscopio de Hermann von Helmholtz, ideó varias operaciones para trastornos oculares, entre ellas, la iridectomía (extirpación de parte del iris) para el glaucoma y la extracción del cristalino en las cataratas. Asoció la ceguera y los defectos visuales de algunas afecciones cerebrales con la inflamación del nervio óptico. El signo de Gräfe (diagnóstico para la enfermedad de Graves) es la incapacidad del párpado superior para seguir al globo ocular en la mirada hacia abajo. Sus escritos incluyen el Manual of Comprehensive Ophthalmology [Manual integral de oftalmología] (7 vol., 1874–80). Se le considera el fundador de la oftalmología moderna.
